Winter Projects – Consults, Workshops, Classes!

Lest you think, due to lack of blog activity, I’ve not been keeping myself busy – au contraire. While the farm is in its winter’s sleep, I’ve been working lately on many different projects – namely those that involve teaching.

My partners, Teresa Berg and Barbara Breitsameter are working to prepare for our next Unleashed Workshop. This time in Dallas in April. I’m thrilled to report this workshop is SOLD OUT!

I’m also getting ready to join 7 other photographers at the beautiful Inn at Perry Cabin in historic St. Michael’s, Maryland for The Workshop On The Waterfront later this month. I’m happy to report that this workshop is also SOLD OUT and has a waiting list. I can’t wait to meet all 60 attendees as well as my fellow presenters!

This Sunday I’ll be working with 7 photographers at the barn studio for an introductory photography class called “Get Your Camera OFF Auto!” It is an afternoon workshop that promises to be fun, interesting and hopefully a great learning experience for our attendees!

Lastly, I’ve been working this year with individual private clients on their pet photography businesses.  I’ve had the profound pleasure to work with some lovely and talented photographers. All gifted, all dedicated to building their business, their brand,  and the level of their pet photography.  It has truly been my pleasure!

My latest consult was just this past weekend. My client drove from New York with her trusty model, Walter.  We worked long and hard. And by the end of the day Walter had had quite enough modeling. Reports have it that he slept all the way home!

So, though winter usually gives us time to regroup, energize and plan for our upcoming year, this winter has also blessed us with a lot of behind the scenes activities -for which we are grateful!  If you are interested in any of the above classes, consults or workshops you can email us via the email button at the top of this page! And bring on spring!

Unleashed – Chicago! The Fine Art of Pet Photography Workshop

For those of you who frequent my blog, I know things have been somewhat quiet.  It’s not for lack of activity on my end.  In late August I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a workshop in Victoria, BC led by the fabulous Amy and Richard McDowell of Red Leaf Studios. Richard and Amy are extraordinary photographers and true artisans.  It was an honor to study with them in beautiful Victoria.

They spent time with me helping me see the “true” vision of my business and I came home totally pumped and ready to go! However, I had my own workshop to teach before finally having the time to look inward at my own business and art.

The workshop, Unleashed-Chicago, was this past weekend and was a rocking success!  I co-taught with my good friends and fellow pet photographers, Barbara Breitsameter and Teresa Berg.

On Friday night we welcomed 16 photographers – all ready to spend a focused weekend photographing pets.  And what a group they were!!  From an attorney from Minnesota to a 16 year old amazing young girl – they came with extreme enthusiasm, boundless energy, and amazing attitudes. It was their attitude that allowed this very intense and time-crunched workshop to go off without too many hitches.

I just can’t say enough about how much this group wanted to learn – and how much they loved and respected animals. I’d like to thank these 16 women for having faith in us as we presented our first Unleashed and for giving so much to this weekend.

I know we’ll all meet again at some point so I refused to say goodbye to any of them.

As a presenter I didn’t do much shooting.  Here are a few from our Saturday evening location session with our beautiful model Sadie.  I hope to post more as each attendee gets some of their work to us.

Thanks again to everyone and especially my co-presenters, Barbara and Teresa.  Their professionalism and hard work makes trying new endeavors possible! Lastly, a huge thank you to my assistant Brandy, who worked so hard all weekend. I could not do my job with out my wonderful assistants!

Just Unleashed! Dog Photography Workshop Dates!

Well, it’s finally official!  After months of discussion and tweaking, I am set to co-teach the first workshop for Unleashed – The Fine Art of Pet Photography.

While I’d be happy to present a workshop on pet photography under any circumstances, the fact that I have teamed up with two awesome pet photographers has me beyond thrilled.

dog_photography.bhp

Our collaborative effort will join Teresa Berg, Barbara Breitsameter, and myself for a 2 1/2 day retreat in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights.  We will be covering many topics to include studio lighting, dog handling, hiring assistants, marketing, location shooting and lighting, contracts, and more.

Our long range goal is to rotate pet workshop locations between Chicago, Dallas and Washington, DC to save our clients time and travel money.

Three instructors will allow us to teach break-out sessions. This will better allow us to customize the workshop for our attendees.  So, if you’re a professional photographer thinking of getting into pet photography or an experienced amateur who wants to take better pet images, I think you’ll find we have a lot to offer.

If you’d like more information you can check out out here. The dates are September 18, 19, & 20. We’d love to have you spend a fun and information packed weekend with us!
