We spent the late afternoon and evening last night with Tegan, a gorgeous greyhound, adopted after his racing days were over.
Tegan’s human, Michelle signed on for our “signature” session which included shooting time in both the barn as well as out on the farm. Well apparently she didn’t tell Tegan this. He wanted absolutely nothing to do with that barn session! We literally had to physically hold him in place, attempt to get his attention, and then ready that shutter button because he would bolt to the door the second we released him. Nonetheless, we managed a few classic greyhound poses!

(Notice I gave in and bought that giant canvas!)

We finally relented and Tegan got his way as we headed out to trek amongst the farm backdrop. Photographing greyhounds can be a bit like working with a cat. They do what they want, when they want. Tegan decided he only wanted to look eastward and preferred a sweeping view. At times it was like manuevering a horse about the farm.

Tegan is a striking boy with his half black- half white face. A love of a dog. He was in foster care for 2 years before finding his forever home with Michelle. And what a home he’s found. Michelle is not new to greyhounds. Tegan’s predecessor, Gavin, was another greyhound of Michelle’s who died suddenly at age 6. Tegan is much loved and is, as most greyhounds seem to be, truly grateful for his new life.

Those of you who know me, know that I go way back with greyhound and galgo (Spanish greyhound) work. Working with Tegan last night brought back great memories of so many wonderful greys who have passed through my life.
Thanks for a great session Tegan!

(Please note that I am well versed in greyhound handling and Tegan was never off-leash in these photos!)
