More From the Lucketts Store!

I thought I’d post a few more from our fun shoot at the Lucketts Store.  Duke was such a trooper that I thought that he deserved a bit of the spotlight as well!

I finally broke down and bought that canvas I’ve been drooling over. Now it’s sitting at the Luckett’s Store with a SOLD sign on it. I have to find something to haul a 5 x 8 foot piece of art!

Grizz- In Memory

I was saddened to hear this morning of another loss.  The Williams family of Ashburn lost Grizz to cancer a few months ago.  We met Grizz and his frisky, younger pal Obie (a giant St. Bernard) last October. They came to the farm for a Christmas card session with the entire family.

We  had such a good time that day – laughing and trying to move two giant dogs about!  Our heartfelt sympathies to the Williams family for the loss of your beloved family member.  Susan expressed to me how grateful she was that they had gotten some images last fall… we are too.

Chevy & Tucker – Black Labs Romp the Farm!

We had a Sunday evening session with the McClintock family from Reston.  The whole family came along and we grabbed a few family shots as well. The dogs, of course, were our main subject and what a pair!

Chevy is the older of these two boys.  A flunk-out from the Guide Dog for the Blind program, he found his forever home with the McClintocks.  I think he is a rather brilliant dog – thus the reason for not “making it” in guide dog school.  I think Chevy realized early on that there was a cushier life to be led and he decided to “underperform.”

His partner in crime is young Tucker.  At five months and growing, Tucker is, as you would expect, a bundle of energy.  Full of spunk and a bit mischievous too, Tucker idolizes his big brother Chevy. (Notice Tucker’s slightly swollen left eye in the photo above – a run-in with a biting insect!)

We had our hands full with these two. Especially Tucker.  He had a sly look in his eye as he ran off with our treat bag! Later, when no one was watching, he snatched up a pair of lovely prescripton sunglasses and bolted across the field.  I think Chevy has filled out an application to try to get Tucker into Guide Dog School!

I know these two will be fast friends. Tucker & Chevy are lucky to have each other!

Thanks for spending a lovely Sunday afternoon with us on the farm!

A Morning Session for Fun! Lucketts Store..

Every once in a while I need to take some time and shoot for me. It’s easy to get so caught up in the business side of photography that you forget to take time to shoot for fun.

This morning we did just that! If you’ve never been to the Lucketts Store it’s worth the trip! This old home is filled inside and out with baubles, antiques, restored furniture, vintage clothing, yup, even an old gas pump. You can find just about anything here.  If you go, don’t forget to make your way over to the Design House for more fun and design inspiration.

The fine folks at the store were nice enough to let us shoot before hours today. Thank you!!

We worked with Duke, a gorgeous and gentle Great Dane.  He was an extraordinary model.  Here are just a few…

An Evening In Culpeper with REMY – The Super Dog!

Well, after the previous day with Jordan and her easy, plodding pace, let’s just say we changed things up a bit yesterday!  We traveled to a family country get-away to photograph Remy, the canine pin-ball machine, I mean Jack Russell Terrier,  while he bounced his way around the property.

To say Remy is fast is an understatement.  This dog kept moving from the moment we arrived until we said our very weary goodbyes.  So often those high-energy dogs are a bit “crazed” and lacking in their ability to slow down long enough to connect with many humans.  Not the case with this boy. He is a bundle of fun, love and great optimism.  Remy just doesn’t want to miss ANYTHING!

I love this series.  It perfectly depicts our session.  If Remy could talk he would of kept repeating, “I gave you a second, that’s all you get. Now it’s time for me to move again!”

I’ve met so many long-lived Jack Russells.  The oldest was a sweet old girl who passed away at the age of 21.  My neighbor just lost her JRT, Stella at 19.  There’s just something in their constitution – I think it’s the optimism that keeps them going so long.

Besides our personable canine host, the farm was lovely. Beautiful sweeping views and giant fields – perfect for the energy machine!

It wouldn’t be a Jack Russell shoot without a few tricks!

And of course it’s nearly impossible for me to shoot an old breed without stepping back in time a bit..

It was a wonderful, energetic session.  Thanks Remy!
