Winter Projects – Consults, Workshops, Classes!

Lest you think, due to lack of blog activity, I’ve not been keeping myself busy – au contraire. While the farm is in its winter’s sleep, I’ve been working lately on many different projects – namely those that involve teaching.

My partners, Teresa Berg and Barbara Breitsameter are working to prepare for our next Unleashed Workshop. This time in Dallas in April. I’m thrilled to report this workshop is SOLD OUT!

I’m also getting ready to join 7 other photographers at the beautiful Inn at Perry Cabin in historic St. Michael’s, Maryland for The Workshop On The Waterfront later this month. I’m happy to report that this workshop is also SOLD OUT and has a waiting list. I can’t wait to meet all 60 attendees as well as my fellow presenters!

This Sunday I’ll be working with 7 photographers at the barn studio for an introductory photography class called “Get Your Camera OFF Auto!” It is an afternoon workshop that promises to be fun, interesting and hopefully a great learning experience for our attendees!

Lastly, I’ve been working this year with individual private clients on their pet photography businesses.  I’ve had the profound pleasure to work with some lovely and talented photographers. All gifted, all dedicated to building their business, their brand,  and the level of their pet photography.  It has truly been my pleasure!

My latest consult was just this past weekend. My client drove from New York with her trusty model, Walter.  We worked long and hard. And by the end of the day Walter had had quite enough modeling. Reports have it that he slept all the way home!

So, though winter usually gives us time to regroup, energize and plan for our upcoming year, this winter has also blessed us with a lot of behind the scenes activities -for which we are grateful!  If you are interested in any of the above classes, consults or workshops you can email us via the email button at the top of this page! And bring on spring!

And Finally – Sydney

You may remember a few weeks back we started a session at The Kennels at Stoneleigh that was to include four dogs.  Our first attempt yielded a full session with Riley.  Back we went two weeks later and captured, Allie and Mr. Jacks.

Finally, yesterday, we finished what we’d started with Sydney.  Four beautiful dogs. A truly remarkable location.  As we lose the glorious color of fall, another landscape emerges.  Heavy with textures and lines and begging for some black and white work.  We plan to return over the next few weeks and do some portfolio work on this amazing property.

So, here is Sydney – the fourth and final dog of this lovely group of pals.  Two dogs, each belonging to a sister, are much loved and so very well suited to outdoor shooting.

Babette & Her Sidekick Bella

Our session was booked for two dogs, Bella a Bouvier des Flandres, and Babette, a toy poodle.  Really though, this was about Babette.  Babette, who is 13, has been diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism, and is very ill.  She is not a surgical candidate apparently and so, because of a tumor on her parathyroid gland, her calcium levels continue to rise and cause terrible symptoms.

She was such a trooper though.  Once she figured us out she realized she could rest between sets and still rally for her “beauty shot.”  Perfectly groomed and used to being pampered,  Babette is a true fighter.  That she brought along her best friend Bella to sort of stir things up was appropriate!

Bella’s favorite trick was to walk in front of my lens as I was shooting Babette.  On more than one occasion I was able to use Bella’s back as a tripod to rest my camera on.   An unlikely pair these two. Nine pound Babette and 96 lb Bella!  Though there is 90lbs and several years separating these two, it was obvious they are fast friends.

We are conscious of the fact that Babette is so very ill.  Our hearts go out to the family.  She is such a strong personality I know she will fight as long as she can.  Dogs really are amazing. We are so lucky to have the moments we get with them. We all wish Babette could have many more moments..

Grace & Lucy – Another Session at Beautiful Stoneleigh

We showed up at Stoneleigh on a secret mission.  We were in search of Lucy & Grace for a surprise holiday session.  Their human Mollie thought it would be a wonderful gift to surprise her husband and kids with the gift of pet images.

So Lucy and Grace got some extra hiking time this visit.  When dogs stay at Stoneleigh you have the option of having them go on nature hikes throughout the beautiful property.

We had a lovely time with these two. Lucy, the older dog, had a voice and knew how to use it. An avid ball chaser she was happy as long as SHE was in charge! Grace, is the consummate happy lab.  Eager to please, happy to “try stuff,” not really interested in Lucy’s old ball anyway.

I think Lucy and Graces’ family will be very pleasantly surprised on Christmas morning. Thanks ladies!
